14 Year Dallas Business Owner, Tarsha Polk, ‘The Marketing Lady,’ has been named President of the National Association of Women Business Owners Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter for 2017-2018
DALLAS, TX, August 28, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ — NAWBO is the primary voice of America’s 10 million women-owned businesses. The D/FW chapter is committed to developing strong alliances to serve women business owners across North Texas. The focus is on helping members develop leadership skills, public policy advocacy, and developing strategic programming to support the growth of complex women businesses.
“My vision for this chapter,” says Ms. Polk, “is to become the premiere resource for women entrepreneurs, helping them propel business growth and professional development. My passion is to inspire people to live their dreams through entrepreneurship, that is why this year’s theme is “Propel her.”
Ms. Polk started her own marketing services firm in 2003, after being denied at work for an internal transfer without good reason. Realizing others were determining her future, she resigned and eventually started her own company and brand, The Marketing Lady. Since then Ms. Polk has become a nationally-known speaker, author and personal brand strategist helping small business owners with standing out to attracting more clients.
Ms. Polk is ready to accept her latest new professional challenge. “I’m thrilled to take the helm of the Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter,” she says, “and partner with D/FW’s most influential organizations, government entities, corporate partners and the 296,000 women owned businesses in the Metroplex.”
According to the 2016 State of Women-Owned Businesses report by American Express Open, Texas is ranked #2 in the number of women-owned firms. African-American and Latina owned firms are growing at a 125% and 156% rate over a 14-year period.
Through programming, the chapter will address the business and personal concerns of women business owners such as, access to capital, growth strategies, work/life balance and doing business with other local businesses.
Among Ms. Polk’s other goals for the upcoming year include: creating more opportunities for women to connect and collaborate; grow membership to include student entrepreneurs, corporate partners and community groups.
The 2017-2018 executive board members include Leslie Hassler – President Elect, Janie Stubblefield -Immediate Past-President, Joan Arcerio – Treasurer, Dr. Rochelle Webb- Secretary. The 2017-2018 board of directors include Dr. Tina Mims – Public Policy, Tara Hooper – Programs, Treta Sellers – Membership and Sandi Leyva – Technology.
