The legal publication’s list is limited to 18 lawyers statewide recognized as the most respected and accomplished in their practice area.

GREENSBORO, NC, March 21, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Ward Black Law is pleased to announce that principal owner and personal injury attorney Janet Ward Black earned one of only 18 spots on the 2023 Power List: Personal Injury, published by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

The annual list recognizes the most accomplished and respected attorneys in an area of practice. A top source of statewide legal information for practicing attorneys, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly also compiles Power Lists recognizing attorneys who practice real estate and employment law.

Black also has earned honors from North Carolina Super Lawyers, North Carolina’s Legal Elite, and The Best Lawyers in America, among others. Since 2010, US News & World Report has named her firm one of the Best Law Firms in America.

One of the largest woman-owned law firms in the state, Ward Black Law currently represents several North Carolina counties against the manufacturers and distributors of opioids. “Personally, I’ve had the opportunity to handle some interesting cases,” Black said. “I’ve represented many individuals hurt by dangerous products, including over a thousand North Carolinians with asbestos diseases such as mesothelioma and lung cancer.”

A native of Kannapolis, NC, Black graduated from Davidson College cum laude with a major in economics and obtained her law degree from Duke Law School. She served as an assistant district attorney in Cabarrus and Rowan counties and has been practicing in Greensboro since 1992.

She is the second lawyer in history to serve as president of both the North Carolina Association of Trial Lawyers and the North Carolina Bar Association. While head of the Bar Association, Black created 4ALL, a program for providing free legal services to the poor that has since been used as a model in the United States and Canada.

A frequent motivational speaker and lawyer educator, Black is a Trustee Emeritus of Hood Theological Seminary. In 2016, she received the highest civilian honor in North Carolina, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Following Black’s belief in giving back to the community, Ward Black Law tithes 10 percent of its annual gross revenue to nonprofits.

“We’ve seen some miraculous things happen and have become friends with many nonprofit leaders who are changing our community and our world,” she said.
